What is A Year of Brotherly Action?

A Year of Brotherly Action is a year-long campaign dedicated to uplifting and empowering Black men through mentorship, community engaged employment, and citywide events in preparation for 2026: America's 250th birthday. This initiative aims to position Black men—often among the most marginalized in our city—as central to Philadelphia's future. We believe that when Black men rise, Philadelphia rises with them.

What is Philly Truce?

PHILLY TRUCE is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded by Steven Pickens and Mazzie Casher in 2020 as the homicide rate in Philadelphia crept up to 500. Our mission is to empower African American men with the tools, resources, and support they need to achieve Sustainable Manhood, grounded in clear evidence that they have disproportionately been victims of systemic inequities, marginalization, violence, and incarceration. By addressing these barriers, we help them uplift their communities—from their own house to the White House—improving conditions for everyone and transforming the cost of neglect into an investment in hope, resilience, and lasting change.

How can I help?

Besides mentors and mentees, we need donations and help spreading the word!
